It’s hard to imagine that the Cornish folk tales of the 1700s, 1800s, and 1900s would ever have been popularized as a kind of social media-driven fairy tale.
And yet, they were.
Cornish folklore was a vibrant social phenomenon in the mid-19th century, with a wide range of different stories and settings.
The Cornish language, the people who lived there, and the way the country was organized were all influenced by it.
But for a while, it was also a source of inspiration for filmmakers.
And that’s exactly what happened with the Cornishes version of The Fair Folk: a charming, playful little story of a group of fairies trying to help their neighbors out.
Cornishes folklore is still the subject of several movies, books, and more, but this is the first time a documentary has explored the way it influenced people and their attitudes towards each other.
